Stage 8 of Twelve — Lock 8 · The Trunk Lock
The Crossing
This door is dashhardeen.com, one of the twelve doors of the test hunt. The trunk itself waits at test.tenwordcipher.com.
[ The Bill ]
In 1900 the act sailed for England with the trunk in the hold, and the crew sang the count across the grey water to keep the chains from fretting. Their shanty survives. Like everything Bessie ever wrote down, it keeps its secret at the stern, not the bow.
We hauled the trunk through the winter breath
And sang the count across the grey sea
She struck her chains against the anchor
And rode the long swell along her rib
The lantern swung above us, to and fro
Till Boston showed her lights in the harbour
[ The Clue ]
The shanty in the bill above is the clue. Take the last letter of every line — the stern of each line, not the bow — from the top line down. The six letters spell the place every crossing is praying for.
The clue is the shanty itself, in [The Bill] above. Work the end of each line, then type the word below.
[ Hint ]
Ships do not pray for the sea. They pray for the end of it.
